TEMPO.CO, Jerusalem - Hebrew University researcher on Monday announced the discovery of a rare Byzantine-era gold and silver artifacts. Professor Eilat Mazar has discovered the most impressive of which is a 10-centimeter solid gold medallion emblazoned with a menorah and other Jewish iconography.
"I have never found so much gold in my life!" Professor Eilat Mazar said at a press conference on Mount Scopus, as cited by the Times of Israel. "I was frozen. It was unexpected."
The findings were unearthed in the area of the Southern Wall of the Temple Mount known as the Ophel. Temple Mount is one of religious sites in Jerusalem, where two Jewish temples once existed.
Not only gold, Mazar discovered Shofar (musical instrument) made of ram's horn. Professor Mazar described the discovery as unique, given the Jewish symbols appear very clear in the findings.
