TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A qualitative research entitled "Blueprint for Change" reported that people with diabetics in Indonesia have reached 7.6 millions. However, only 41 percent knows exactly what they are truly dealing with.
Global Status Report on NCD (Non-communicable Disease/Diabetes) by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2010 mentioned that Diabetes Melitus is the sixth killer in a non-contagious disease category. It can attack anyone between the age of 20 to 79.
International Diabetes Federation in 2012 revealed that people with diabetics across the globe have reached 371 million, with Indonesia sitting as the seventh nation with Diabetic people.
Niels Lund, Vice President of Global Public Affairs Novo Nordisk, mentioned that people with diabetics are predicted to reach 11.8 million in 2030, increasing six percent annually. Professor Sidartawan Soegondo, Chief of Indonesia Diabetes Association said most of people with diabetics remain unaware of the disease, despite its being inherited through bloodline.
