Imported Beef Safe to Consume, Official Says

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Agriculture Minister confirmed that the imported beef from Australia is safe for consumption, including the beef supply distributed by the National Bureau of Logistics (Bulog).
Banun Harpini, the Head of Quarantine Department at the Agriculture Ministry, mentioned that they have monitored the imported beef ever since the beef entered Indonesian territory up to its distribution. "We have conducted layers of monitoring since the beef was imported from the country of origin. In the entrance gate, we also monitored whether the beef contained dangerous residue like hormone or not," said Banun.
He stated that the imported beef were safe, healthy, and halal for public consumption. The Quarantine Departement also set to conduct scheduled monitoring once every six month to check for growth hormone residue.
