TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT. Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) is starting to target the health market. To support its objective, BRI will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with state insurer PT. Askes today, July 12. "The scope of the cooperation will consist of banking services for social security providers (BPJS) clients," BRI corporate secretary Muhamad Ali said.
Askes President Director Fachmi Idris stated that as the social security provider, Askes will aim for 125 million clients on January 1, next year. The projected number, he said, is up 760 percent from the 16.4 million clients that Askes is currently serving. "We need a banking partner to support our service," said Fachmi.
He informed that the next step of the MoU procedure will have to wait for State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Minister Dahlan Iskan’s decision. If the contract is passed, BRI will take care of the BPJS program’s due payments and acceptances.
Interviewed at the same place, BRI Director of Institutional Business Asmawi Syam explained that the due payments will be done through a virtual account that will be automatically recorded by BRI when clients pay the premium. "This technology will make it easier for clients to pay and accept dues from any BRI branch offices and ATMs."
Previously, said Fachmi, a similar cooperation has been done with Bank Mandiri and Bank BNI. "We want the clients to experience convenience through this service," he said.
