TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Hatta Rajasa, urged Finance Minister Chatib Basri to immediately make a decision on the divestment of Newmont's seven-percent stake. Hatta specifically asked for the stake to be bought by the local government of West Nusa Tenggara.
"Just give [the stake] to the local government--stop stringing this along. Hurry up and resolve it," Hatta said at his office Tuesday, July 9.
According to Hatta, the central government's plan to buy the shares was already rejected by the House of Representatives, the State Audit and the Constitutional Court.
"If the local government does not want it, just give it to a State Owned Enterprise," he said.
In many occasions, Finance Minister had refused to comment on Newmont's divestment shares, claiming not to have studied the matter.
