Hatta: Govt Not Buying Newmont Shares

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Hatta Radjasa, announced that the central government was no longer interested in buying the remaining seven-percent divestment shares in gold mining company Newmont Nusa Tenggara.
"There will be no further amendments to extend the Sales and Purchase Agreement," said Hatta, Thursday, July 4.
The central government's cancellation of the plan, he said, was reflected in 2013 State Budget Amendment wherein there is no budget allocation to purchase the Newmont shares.
To that end, Hatta advised the provincial government of West Nusa Tenggara to buy the rest of the divested shares.
Not too long ago, former Finance Minister Agus Martowardojo insisted that the central government should be the one buying the stake. The plan seemed to have been forgotten after Agus stepped down and was replaced by Chatib.
