BRI Posts Slowing Micro Credit Growth

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The micro credit of Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) has been showing a slower growth than the total average. In the first quarter of this year, BRI's micro credit grew 22.3 percent, lower that its overall credit growth of 27.6 percent.
BRI's director for micro, small and medium businesses Djarot Kusumayakti said that on certain times of the year such as Christmas, New Year and harvest seasons, it is normal for micro credit to decline.
"It fell pretty bad in January," Djarot said during in BRI's public expose in Jakarta, yesterday.
BRI's President Director Sofyan Basir said that with the addition of branch offices terraces in remote, rural areas, BRI's microcredit is expected to increase, driven by distribution into new markets.
