TEMPO.CO, Surabaya – United States Deputy Ambassador Kristen F. Bauer visited the Troy Athletics Sport Club at Thor Field, Surabaya, East Java, on Monday, April 15 2013. Troy is an athletic club that focusses on training athlete candidates.
Most of the students in Troy are former homeless children gathered by Alit Foundation, a non-governmental institution that focusses on handling homeless children.
“In a sport, we used to work as a team. It will prepare these children when they finally find a job in the future,” said Bauer. Bauwer witnessed children aged 8 to 12 years old practicing short distance runs and hurdles. She encouraged the children to continue training with high motivation.
Bauer believed that sports are important for young generations. Aside from being able to produce top athletes, sports can make a person stronger and smarter.
