TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Transportation Minister Bambang Susantono says that studies for the construction of the Trans Sulawesi railway will be completed this year. “So we can start the construction immediately,” said Bambang during the inauguration and seminar of the IRSE Indonesian Section on Thursday, April 4.

The first line to be built will cover fast growing areas such as Makassar and Parepare on the West Coast. Bambang said the two areas are growing rapidly as industrial areas and transportation of goods is strong between the two areas. “There are also ports in and around Makassar and Parepare,” said Bambang.

Bambang added that studies are required to determine the network systems to be used. Furthermore, railway alignment will be determined later based on the stakeholders’ decision. In addition, studies are also required to make calculations for funding.
