TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police will deploy hundreds of thousands of its members to secure Christmas and New Year holidays at various points across the country.
National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo said they would conduct traffic operations at 2,794 posts across Indonesia to ensure the smooth flow of Christmas travel and religious activities. The operation will involve a total of 141,443 personnel from the joint forces of the Indonesian National Police, the Indonesian Military (TNI), and other relevant agencies.
"Certainly there are several aspects that we are concerned about in this Christmas and New Year celebration. The first is related to the potential public activities, whether it is tourism activities or homecoming activities, both inter-provincial and within the province," he said in a statement received by Tempo on Saturday, November 23, 2024.
The authorities will have more coordination and technical coordination meetings to finalize the preparation. After that, there will be controls and monitoring in the field.
"The coordination meeting at this time is to prepare the entire series of events that will be conducted by the public during the Christmas and New Year holidays so that it can be done safely, smoothly, and properly," the police added.
Sigit hoped that during the coordination meeting, any shortcomings in the preparations could be addressed and that the process would run smoothly.
"So that if there are any shortcomings, we can correct them immediately and prepare the security, especially for the Christmas and New Year holidyays, to go more smoothly," he said.
