TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian boccia team added another silver medal to the nation's medal tally at the 2024 Paris Paralympics, narrowly losing 6-7 to China in the BC1/BC2 mixed team final.
Felix Ardi Yudha, Muhamad Afrizal Syafa, and Gischa Zayana faced a tough challenge against Zhijian Lan, Zhiqiang Yan, and Qi Zhang in the match held at the South Paris Arena on Thursday night local time.
Despite a strong finish with three points each in the final two throws, the Indonesian team was unable to overcome China's early lead. With this result, the Indonesian boccia team contributed two silver and two bronze medals to the nation's overall Paralympic medal count.
Muhammad Bintang Satria Herlangga won another silver medal in the men's individual BC2 event, while Gischa Zayana and Muhamad Afrizal Syafa secured bronze medals in the women's individual BC2 and men's individual BC1 events, respectively.
This achievement is particularly impressive considering that the 2024 Paris Paralympics marked the debut of the Indonesian boccia team on the Paralympic stage.
At present, Indonesia ranks 41st in the overall medal standings with a total of 13 medals, including 1 gold, 7 silver, and 5 bronze. These medals have been earned in para-badminton, para-athletics, and boccia.
Several Indonesian athletes will continue to compete in the remaining events of the 2024 Paris Paralympics, including para-cycling, para-athletics, blind judo, and para weightlifting.
