TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Golkar Party Deputy Chairman Ahmad Doli Kurnia Tandjung has dismissed the issue of external pressure on Airlangga Hartarto's decision to resign as Golkar Party Chair.
He said that Airlangga Hartarto's resignation was based on a number of considerations, one of which was to maintain party solidity in the government transition process. Doli said Airlangga would focus more on his position as Coordinating Minister for the Economy in President Joko Widodo-Ma'ruf Amin's administration cabinet.
"So that the General Chairperson is more focused on his duties and responsibilities as Coordinating Minister. So that the running of the organization is not disturbed," said Doli in front of Airlangga's official residence, Widya Chandra Complex, Sunday, August 11, 2024.
As Coordinating Minister for the Economy, he said, Airlangga is more needed in the cabinet to facilitate the transition process from the Jokowi-Ma'ruf government to the Prabowo-Gibran government.
"There are so many programs that have been prepared as follow-up programs to maintain the continuity of the government's vision and mission," said Doli.
The chair of the DPR Government Commission emphasized that Airlangga's resignation would also not have an impact on the regional head election process being prepared by the party and the Advanced Indonesia Coalition (KIM).
"The General Chair resigned sincerely to keep the national agenda, including the regional elections, running smoother and safer," he said.
Previously, through a video recording, Airlangga Hartarto decided to resign as Chair of the Golkar Party after serving for almost two terms. The decision was made by Airlangga yesterday, on Saturday, August 10, 2024.
Airlangga said that the decision to resign as the party chair was taken based on many considerations, one of which was to maintain the integrity of the party bearing the banyan tree symbol.
"In order to ensure the stability of the government transition that will occur in the near future," said Airlangga, related to his resignation, in a video recording obtained by Tempo, Sunday, August 11, 2024.
