TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi expressed optimism that the development of the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub (BMTH) will have a positive impact and boost the national economy.

"I saw that the BMTH development progress is positive and significant. Hopefully, the infrastructure development can run in accordance with the plan and operate optimally soon," he said while reviewing the BMTH development in Benoa Port, Bali, on Saturday, August 10, 2024.

He noted that the completion of the BMTH development will push the growth of the tourism ecosystem in Bali and increase the arrivals of foreign and domestic tourists at Benoa Port.

Sumadi also hoped that the BMTH would attract foreign tourists through cruise ships that are sailing in Bali waters.

According to him, in 2023, there were 48 cruise ships docked in Benoa Port with a total passenger count of more than 77 thousand people.

"With the development that is currently being carried out, I am optimistic that the number will increase even more," he said in a statement in Jakarta.

The minister explained that the BMTH development has a significant impact on Benoa Port's operations. He noted that several large cruise ships with a length of more than 300 meters have started to dock in the port.

"It is hoped that Benoa Port can serve as a home port for several international cruise ships in line with the completion of the BMTH development," he remarked.

BMTH is one of the National Strategic Projects (PSNs) that is carried out to develop the Benoa Port of Bali to be a maritime tourism hub.

BMTH will integrate tourism, port, and entertainment sectors to create a multiplier effect on economic growth.

In addition, as part of marine tourism in the country, BMTH is also connected with domestic and international tourism routes.
