TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) has entered into a collaboration with PT CT Corpora (CT Corp) to advance green energy initiatives within CT Corp's business operations. This partnership is part of PLN’s commitment to supporting the green energy needs of the industrial and business sectors in Indonesia, with the goal of achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2060.
The green economy collaboration was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo and CT Corp Chairman & Founder Chairul Tanjung on Thursday, August 8, 2024, in Makassar, South Sulawesi. The MoU outlines cooperation on the development of electric vehicle infrastructure within CT Corp's business environment and the provision of clean energy services through renewable energy certificates (RECs).
PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo stated that PLN is ready to support CT Corp’s green energy initiatives, which are aimed at addressing climate change challenges and promoting the implementation of a green economy. He emphasized that the commitment to energy transition is a shared responsibility among the government, PLN, and the private sector.
"This collaboration lays the foundation for CT Corp and PLN to align their efforts toward a brighter future. The energy transition journey would be challenging if undertaken individually, but through collaboration, these efforts can be more easily achieved," Darmawan said during his speech, as quoted in a written statement on Friday, August 9, 2024.
Darmawan added that this partnership also demonstrates PLN's ability to provide reliable green energy to the industrial and business sectors, ultimately contributing to societal welfare. “This initiative aligns with PLN's broader vision to drive the electricity sector not only as an energy source but also as a key driver of the national economy,” he said.
CT Corp Chairman & Founder Chairul Tanjung expressed appreciation for PLN's efforts in developing green energy in the electricity sector and beyond. He noted that this collaboration aligns with CT Corp’s transformation into a greener company, exemplified by the use of solar-based renewable energy in three Trans Studio Mall locations: Makassar, Bandung, and Cibubur.
Chairul also mentioned that through this MoU, CT Corp will accelerate its green economy programs by providing electric vehicle charging stations (SPKLU) at all CT Corp outlets across Indonesia, from Aceh to Papua.
"We all understand that climate change is a challenge for everyone. It is changing life patterns and business models," Chairul said.
In addition to the green economy partnership, PLN, through its subholding PLN Icon Plus, is also collaborating with CT Corp in developing content streaming products under ICONPLAY and expanding telecommunications, multimedia, and informatics networks. This was marked by the signing of a cooperation agreement between PLN Icon Plus President Director Ari Rahmat Indra Cahyadi and Transvision President Director Peter F. Gontha.
"This partnership is not just about electricity. It marks a new breakthrough where PLN, traditionally focused on electricity, is now expanding beyond electricity under Mr. Darmawan's leadership," Chairul added.
