TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Gelora Bung Karno Stadium (SUGBK) will be designated as a national strategic project (PSN) jointly managed by state bodies, including state-run enterprises, stated Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno.

"As a PSN, the stadium will be equipped with some infrastructure to support sports and entertainment events. It is also vital that we maintain comfort and security in this area of over 200 hectares," he remarked at the SUGBK Complex in Jakarta on Sunday, July 14, 2024.

Uno then spoke of President Joko Widodo having instructed the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy to conduct studies in order to identify what needs to be built and What kind of incentives can be granted to SUGBK.

The minister also said he envisions SUGBK as a zone free from non-electric vehicles, similar to Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), a cultural theme park located in East Jakarta.

"We seek to emulate the steps taken for TMII. After its management had been transferred to a state-owned company, TMII no longer allows non-electric vehicles to operate. Meanwhile, I still see some of such vehicles here," he pointed out.

Earlier, the Management Center of SUGBK voiced its support for the government's push for a PSN status for the stadium.

"In nature, SUGBK constitutes a sports facility belonging to the government. In managing the stadium, we have been prioritizing the needs of the (football) national team," said Sri Astuti, head of Marketing and Sales Division of the Management Center.

According to data presented by the Management Center on December 31, 2021, the estimated total value of assets within the SUGBK Complex was registered at Rp348.11 trillion (US$21.5 billion).

The SUGBK Complex covers an area of 279.08 hectares of land, encompassing 150.18 hectares of sports zone, 68.37 hectares of commercial zone, and 60.53 hectares of governmental zone.
