Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan Aims to Form Task Force on Illegal Imports Eradication

9 July 2024 12:58 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan said on Monday that he will form a task force to eradicate illegal imports.

The minister met with several business associations yesterday, including the Indonesian Entrepreneurs Association (Apindo) and the Association of Indonesian Retailers and Shopping Center Tenants (Hippindo).

"We will likely form a task force with the business association, we’ll invite House members and consumer agencies to directly inspect the situation in the markets,” he said on Monday, July 8, 2024.

Minister Zulkifli explained that illegally imported products do not possess the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) documents. For example, there are imported garments with import duties of Rp50,000 to Rp60,000 that are marketed for the same prices."We will work together to identify the real problem,” he said.

Director General of Foreign Trade, Budi Santoso, said the task force for illegal imports will comprise elements of the Prosecutor's Office, National Police, associations, and other related government agencies. However, he has not confirmed when the Task Force will be formed. "It was just discussed," he said.

Secretary General of Hippindo, Haryanto Pratantara, said that his side advised the ministry on the Ministerial Regulation on Import Policy and Regulation. “We hope the new regulation will be more precise,” he said
