Energy Ministry Targets to Finalize NRE Bill Before Jokowi Leaves Office

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources targeted to finalize the bill on New and Renewable Energy (NRE Bill) before President Joko Widodo or Jokowi's term ends in October.

Director of Planning and Development of New, Renewable Energy Infrastructure and Energy Conservation at the Energy Ministry, Hendra Iswahyudi, said some points in the NRE draft still need polishing 

"There are some points (in the new energy Bill) that we need to push more, to find some common ground,” he said on Wednesday, July 3, 2024.

Hendra said the Energy Ministry expected the bill to pass soon and derivative regulations can be pursued not long after. "We are hoping to accelerate the promulgation of (NRE Bill) and to pursue its derivative regulations soon after,” said Hendra.

The NRE Bill Working Committee at the Commission VII of the House of Representatives (DPR) discussed three issues regarding the draft regulation on June 24 and 25,2024. Of the three issues, the meeting only agreed on the domestic component level or TKDN and the EBET-based electrical supply based on the National Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL).
