TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - UNESCO has teamed up with popular K-pop group SEVENTEEN, announcing the "Going Together – For Youth Creativity and Well-Being" grant program. This innovative initiative, fueled by a $1 million contribution from SEVENTEEN, aims to empower young people worldwide through projects focused on music, arts, and sports.
UNESCO’s Director-General, Audrey Azoulay, who recently appointed SEVENTEEN as the organization’s first-ever Goodwill Ambassador for Youth, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership.
“This group has become a symbol for millions of young people around the world, to whom we transmit positive energy and the spirit of leadership,” she said, adding that the UNESCO is delighted to join forces with SEVENTEEN to give young people the means to express themselves and to take action to rise to this century’s major challenges
The grant scheme is designed to support youth-led initiatives that enhance the well-being and development of young people and their communities. Eligible project leaders, aged 18 to 30, from diverse backgrounds and regions, can benefit from this funding to implement transformative projects.
Joshua, speaking on behalf of SEVENTEEN, shared their gratitude for the recognition of their efforts and dedication to global youth. "We are determined to use our voice to create a global youth community made stronger through mutual love and support," he said.
Furthering their commitment, SEVENTEEN will participate in UNESCO's awareness campaigns and events, promoting the organization's values during their performances. Highlighting their active engagement, SEVENTEEN took part in the 13th UNESCO Youth Forum in November 2023, making their first live performance in France, watched by over 40 million online viewers.
UNESCO continues to support various youth initiatives across its educational, scientific, and cultural mandates, including programs focused on women in science, heritage restoration, and supporting young artists and professionals in crisis regions.
