TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Online gambling is rampant in Indonesia's provinces and involves people from various professions, said Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Hadi Tjahjanto. “It has even reached villages,” he said at the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture’s office in Jakarta on Tuesday, June 25.
Hadi emphasized that a task force would be established to eradicate the illegal practice and optimize the role of mass organizations, the military’s village supervisory unit (Babinsa), the police’s security and public order unit (Bhabinkamtibmas), the family welfare organization (PKK), and youth organizations in village and sub-district areas.
He also planned to summon the heads of sub-districts and villages to join the fight against online gambling.
According to data from the Center of Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis (PPATK), Hadi outlined five provinces with the largest number of online gamblers along with their transaction values:
1. West Java: 535,644 gamblers with a transaction value of Rp3.8 trillion.
2. Jakarta: 235,568 gamblers with a transaction value of Rp2.3 trillion.
3. Central Java: 201,963 gamblers with a transaction value of Rp1.3 trillion.
4. East Java: 135,227 gamblers with a total transaction value of Rp1.051 trillion.
5. Banten: 150,302 gamblers with a total transaction value of Rp1.022 trillion.
Additionally, the top five cities or districts with the highest transaction value are:
1. West Jakarta, with a transaction value of Rp792 billion.
2. Bogor City, with a transaction value of Rp612 billion.
3. Bogor Regency, with a transaction value of Rp567 billion.
4. East Jakarta, with a transaction value of Rp480 billion.
5. North Jakarta, with a transaction value of Rp430 billion.
Furthermore, the top seven sub-districts with the highest transaction value of online gambling include:
1. South Bogor: 3,720 gamblers with a transaction value of Rp349 billion.
2. Tambora: 7,916 gamblers with a transaction value of Rp196 billion.
3. Cengkareng: 14,782 gamblers with a transaction value of Rp176 billion.
4. Tanjung Priok: 9,554 gamblers with a transaction value of Rp139 billion.
5. Kemayoran: 680 gamblers with a transaction value of Rp118 billion.
6. Kalideres: 9,825 gamblers with a transaction value of Rp113 billion.
7. Penjaringan: 7,127 gamblers with a transaction value of Rp108 billion.
