TEMPO.CO, Palembang, Indonesia - The Provincial Government of South Sumatra in Indonesia and Vietnam Water Supply and Sewerage Association (VWSA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the management of local clean water.

The agreement document was inked by South Sumatra Acting Governor Agus Fatoni and VWSA Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Diep in Palembang City, South Sumatra, on Saturday, June 22.

"We gladly welcomed VWSA's visit. We discussed further the potential for bilateral water cooperation as well as the management of drinking water," Fatoni noted in a statement received from his office in Palembang on Sunday, June 23, 2024.

Besides signing the MoU, the provincial government accompanied the Vietnamese delegation during a visit to PT TSM in Palembang, one of the regional government owned drinking water companies.

"It is important to continue pursuing such cooperation and expanding it to cover the areas of human resources and technology as well as other aspects," he stated.

Meanwhile, the VWSA chairman remarked that Vietnam and Indonesia had been maintaining harmonious relations, noting that the latter stands among the largest economies in the Southeast Asian region.

As a G20 country, Indonesia's economy and population are among the most prominent at the Asian level, he added.

Nguyen went on to say that Indonesia and Vietnam had been enjoying promising cooperation schemes related to investment.

In this regard, he underlined that the total value of capital mutually invested in the technology sector by Indonesia and Vietnam had reached around US$8 million.

He then suggested that the two countries tap into the potential for investment cooperation in the water industry.

Furthermore, the Vietnamese delegate expressed hope that the VWSA's visit to South Sumatra would lead to better management and provision of clean water.
