TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono launched premium Padi Wangi and Ciwangi rice during the Jakarta Food Festival 2024 at the Cipinang Market in East Jakarta on Thursday, June 20. Heru stated that it was part of the regional government's initiative to help stabilize inflation and basic commodity prices in the capital area.
“[We have] many responsibilities, such as maintaining economic stability, maintaining price stability in the Jakarta area, which of course has an impact on other prices and supports the overall economy, the Indonesian economy,” Heru said.
He also pointed out a diversification of rice products from cassava and corn. “This is inspiring, people can choose products depending on their staple food,” he added.
He emphasized that the regional government is committed to providing affordable prices of basic commodities without compromising the quality. Additionally, the city-owned food security company PT Food Station planned to increase rice stocks.
“The safety net stock is 20,000-30,000 tons, but now the stock should be above that, at least 50,000 tons,” Heru Budi remarked.
This year’s Jakarta Food Festival, also known as Jak Food Fest, carried the theme of Growth and Development for Sustainable Food Security. The Acting Governor said that Jakarta-owned market operator Pasar Jaya is also organizing bazaars where basic commodities are available at reduced prices. The event will last until June 21, 2024.
