TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - North Maluku volcano, Mount Ibu, erupted again with the ash column height reaching 600 meters atop the crater on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at around 6 p.m. local time. This eruption was recorded by a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 6 millimeters and a duration of approximately 49 seconds.

The Geological Agency noted that this eruption produced columns of thick blackish-gray ash. The ash column can be seen leaning north.

The Geological Agency maintained the Alert Level 4 for Mount Ibu. The agency urged residents and visitors to avoid carrying out activities within a 4-kilometer radius from the top of the crater and 7 kilometers in the northern direction of the crater.

"People doing activities outside are advised to mask up if ash falls. All parties must maintain a conducive atmosphere in the community," said Head of the Geological Agency, Muhammad Wafid, quoted from his official statement.

Wafid asked the West Halmahera Government to coordinate with the Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG) in Bandung or get information from the Mount Ibu Observation Post in Gam Ici.

"Citizens, government institutions, and other agencies alike can also monitor the development of Mount Ibu's activities through the Magma Indonesia application and Magma Indonesia social media," said Wafid.
