TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Mount Bromo national park in East Java will be completely closed to visitors from June 21 to 24. The area will be closed for the Yadnya Kasada ritual of the Tengger tribal community, as well as for ecosystem restoration and cleaning purposes.
"The national park area will be closed on June 21 at 00:00 WIB until June 24 2024 at 24:00 WIB," said the head of administration of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Center (BB TNBTS) Septi Eka Wardhani in Malang, Monday, June 17, as reported by Antara.
Yadnya Kasada Ritual
The closure of Mount Bromo for the Yadnya Kasada ceremony will be from June 21 to 22, based on a letter from the Chairman of the Indonesian Hindu Dharma Parisada (PHDI) Pasuruan Regency issued on June 4 and a circular from the Chairman of the PHDI Probolinggo Regency No. 404/E/PHDI-KAB /VI/2024.
"The area will only be accessible to people who will participate in the Yadnya Kasada ritual whose identities have been recorded in the provisions written in the PHDI circular for Pasuruan Regency and Probolinggo Regency," Septi Eka said.
Yadnya Kasada is a ritual for the Tengger Hindu community to express gratitude and to ask for protection from disasters. This ceremony is performed by throwing agricultural produce into the crater of Mount Bromo. This ceremony is carried out in a series of activities, starting with taking holy water from Mount Widodaren, throwing offerings, and ending with a thanksgiving ceremony in each village.
The cleaning of Mount Bromo
After the completion of the Yadnya Kasada, Mount Bromo will remain closed from June 23 to 24, accessible only to the public and to officials in charge of cleaning the area.

The entry points to Mount Bromo that will be closed during this period are the Cemorolawang entrance from the Probolinggo Regency side, the Dingklik area from the Pasuruan Regency side, and the Jemplang area for entry via Malang and Lumajang Regencies.
Mount Bromo is one of the leading tourist destinations in East Java. In 2023, 368,507 tourists, including 13,210 foreigners, visited the national park, which holds the title of the third most beautiful in the world. These visits contributed Rp14.70 billion to Indonesia's non-tax government revenue (PNBP) that year.
