TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ticket sales for the Whoosh high-speed train saw an increase of around 20 percent during the long weekend compared to regular days. PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC) Corporate Secretary Eva Chairunisa stated that 75,000 Whoosh tickets were sold during the Eid al-Adha long weekend period. These tickets were sold for the period of June 14-18, 2024.
"This number will continue to grow as Whoosh tickets are still available through various sales channels," Eva explained in a written statement on Sunday, June 16, 2024.
The increase in passengers began on June 14, 2024. On that date, afternoon and evening departure schedules after work became popular among passengers. A total of more than 19,000 passengers departed during this period.
On June 15, the number of passengers using Whoosh increased to over 21,000. During this period, departure tickets from Halim from 06:40 to 18:00 were all sold out.
Cumulatively, over two days, Whoosh transported approximately 40,000 passengers, averaging 20,000 passengers per day. "This figure is higher than the usual daily total of around 15,000-16,000 passengers," she said.
KCIC predicts the surge in passengers will continue until the day before Eid al-Adha, which falls on Sunday, June 16, 2024.
In addition to families traveling for the holiday, this Eid al-Adha long weekend also saw a high number of group travelers. A total of 60 groups used Whoosh, averaging 12 groups per day.
The total tickets sold to group travelers exceeded 1,500. These groups included companies, government bodies, schools, tour and travel agencies, and the general public.
