TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Religious Affairs is optimistic that Saturday, June 8, 2024, is the First Day of Dhul-hijjah 1445 Hijr. On this basis, Eid al-Adha 2024 will fall on June 17, 2024, or the tenth day of Dhul-hijjah.
Member of the Hisab Rukyat Team, Cecep Nurwendaya, said that ijtimak, or the position of the moon that determines the first day of Dhul-hijjah occurred in Indonesia on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at 07:37 p.m. WIB (Western Indonesia Time).
"We used to say 'approaching the start of Dhul-hijjah' for the announcement but we are quite optimistic this time, so we use the term 'the start of Dhul-hijjah 1445 Hijr'. The position of the moon this time around is very positive,” said Cecep in Jakarta on Friday, June 7, 2024.
Cecep said the current position of the crescent moon is 7.26 degrees to 10.68 degrees and the elongation is between 11.58 degrees to 13.24 degrees. According to him, these have met the hilal criteria of the Minister of Religious Affairs of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore (MABIMS), which require 3 degrees height and an elongation of 6.4 degrees.
Based on the results of synchronizing the hisab rukyat using the rukyat results in 2022, Cecep said the first day of Dhul-hijjah falls on Saturday, June 8, 2024.
"However, this is informative in nature, so we are now waiting for confirmation results from 114 (hisab) points spread across Indonesia," said Cecep.
