TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati emphasized the pivotal role of enhancing human resources (HR) in attaining an economic growth rate of 6-8 percent in line with the vision of Golden Indonesia 2045. She opined that among the HR improvement programs is the provision of nutritious food.
“The HR improvement program through nutritious food, [along with] the improvement and reform of health, education, and social safety nets, are fundamental,” Sri said at the DPR plenary session at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, June 4.
Sri explained that robust economic growth must be accompanied by a continuous surge in quality and inclusivity. In order to reach the economic growth target, she underscored the necessity of augmenting productivity through investments in human resources and economic transformation.
The state treasurer mentioned South Korea which could become a developed country because of its consistent high productivity. About 15 years before reaching the milestone, Sri said that South Korea's investment and manufacturing sectors grew by an average of more than 10 percent every year.
Sri Mulyani also took Taiwan as an example. In the process of becoming a developed country, she said, its investment grew by an average of 20 percent and its manufacturing sector grew by over 8 percent every year.
Free nutritious meals are President-elect Prabowo Subianto's landmark program, which was initially branded as a free lunch program during his campaign. The program has stirred controversy, particularly over the source of funding.
