TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta-Bandung high-speed rail Whoosh recorded a surge in passengers on the long weekend holiday of Vesak Day. GM Corporate Secretary of the company KCIC, Eva Chairunisa, said that the increase occurred on D-1 of the holiday, or on Wednesday, May 22. "There are on average 21,000 passengers per day," Eva said in a written statement received by Tempo on Saturday, May 25, 2024.
According to Eva, the increase in the number of passengers during the long holiday was stable. On Saturday, Whoosh recorded a 30 percent increase in passengers compared to normal days. "The increase in the number of passengers was predicted, during this long holiday, KCIC serves 48 daily trips with 28,000 available seats per day," she explained.
KCIC is urging Whoosh passengers to time their trip to the station to avoid being late. "Prospective passengers are expected to arrive at least 30 minutes before the scheduled departure. This is because the boarding gate closes 5 minutes before departure for safety reasons," Eva said.
Most passengers departing from Jakarta’s Halim Station stop at Padalarang Station and continue their trip with KA Feeder to Bandung Station.
During the holiday period, KCIC implements dynamic pricing by offering affordable fares.
"To welcome this long holiday period, KCIC is implementing a dynamic fare system where train fares are adjusted according to the day and time of departure and the chosen route, with the cheapest fare being Rp150,000 at certain hours," said Eva.
