TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) has spoken about the safety of Magnum ice cream products circulating in Indonesia. This follows the recall of Magnum ice cream in the UK and Ireland by Unilever Plc., as shards of plastic and metal were found in the products.
"Magnum products withdrawn in the UK and Ireland are not circulating in Indonesia,” Head of the BPOM Public Relations and Cooperation Bureau Noorman Effendi confirmed in Jakarta, on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, as quoted by Antara.
Noorman confirmed that currently there are no imported Magnum Almond products entering Indonesia. BPOM ensured the Magnum products available in Indonesia are safe for consumption and do not contain dangerous substances.
Magnum Indonesia Marketing Lead Aliqa Sendialaras shared a similar notion with BPOM. She emphasized that Magnum products sold and distributed in Indonesia are local products.
"We emphasize that all Magnum products officially sold and distributed in Indonesia are local products, not from the UK or Ireland, so they are safe for consumption," he said.
Aliqa then explained the recalling of Magnum products in the UK and Ireland are limited preventive measures for manufactured products. The withdrawn products are Magnum Almond Ice Cream Sticks (3x100 ml), with batch codes L3338, L3339, L3340, L3341, and L3342 with an expiration date in December 2025. These products are reported to have this risk.
