TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Apple CEO Tim Cook paid a visit to the office of Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto after meeting with President Joko Widodo or Jokowi last night, April 17. During the meeting, Tim Cook congratulated Prabowo on his victory in the 2024 presidential election.
"I look forward to working with you as Apple continues to invest in Indonesia's technology ecosystem," Tim said in his March 21 letter to Prabowo announcing his visit to Indonesia, as quoted by Antara.
In his press statement, Cook said he was proud of the collaboration with three Apple development academies in Surabaya, Jakarta and Batam. He believes that through this collaboration, Indonesia and Apple will produce thousands of qualified graduates in the field of technology who will contribute to the nation.
"In the future, I am sure we will be able to open further successful collaborations between Indonesia and Apple," he said.
President Jokowi had asked Apple to expand its human resources (HR) and innovation development center in cooperation with well-known universities in Indonesia.
"The President also said that in addition to establishing the Apple Development Academy, he wants Apple to establish an innovation center in cooperation with top universities in Indonesia," said Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita.
To date, Apple has invested Rp1.6 trillion in building the Apple Development Academy, a training program for digital talent to develop Apple applications. The program already exists in four locations, namely BSD Tangerang, Surabaya, Batam and most recently in Bali.
In addition, Agus said, President Jokowi believes that Apple's development of human resource capacity is an investment no less important than building factories in Indonesia.
The Indonesian government and Apple have also agreed to build the manufacturing capacity necessary for Indonesia to become a player in Apple's global supply chain.
