TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Heavy passenger traffic during the Eid 2024 travel season made Soekarno-Hatta Airport the busiest in Southeast Asia during the period. London-based travel intelligence agency OAG Aviation Worldwide Limited reported that Soekarno-Hatta Airport's seat capacity reached 3.34 million seats in April 2024, the highest among its regional peers.
"The second and third busiest airports in April 2024 according to OAG are Changi Airport (Singapore) and Suvarnabhumi Airport (Bangkok, Thailand)," PT Angkasa Pura II VP for corporate communications Cin Asmoro said in a written statement on Thursday, April 18.
Cin said the Eid transportation period, which runs from April 3 to 18, also made Soekarno-Hatta Airport the busiest airport among ASEAN member countries.
"The entire Eid traffic period of 16 days from April 3 to 18 has contributed to making Soekarno-Hatta Airport the busiest airport in Southeast Asia. Together with the airlines and with the full support of the regulatory authorities, AP II as the airport operator was able to meet the high demand during the peak season for Eid traffic."
Soekarno-Hatta Airport’s executive general manager Dwi Ananda said that from the seventh day before Eid to the fourth day after (April 3-15), 2.02 million passenger movements were recorded at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, an increase of 7 percent compared to the previous period last year.
During this period, airlines operated 994 additional flights at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
Throughout the Eid travel period until April 15, the busiest destination from Soekarno-Hatta Airport was Denpasar with 336,610 passengers, followed by Medan with 251,699 passengers, Surabaya with 197,731 passengers, Makassar with 170,596 passengers and Padang with 166,218 passengers.
This year, OAG also named Soekarno-Hatta Airport as the airport with the best recovery from the effects of Covid-19 in the Asia-Pacific region. The airport won a gold medal in the ‘Most Recovered Airport’ category at the Asia-Pacific (ASPAC) Aviation Network Champions that was held in March this year.
