TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Secretary General of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Hasto Kristiyanto, dismissed the notion of internal division within the party. Hasto responded to concerns about factions that either want to be embraced or excluded in the upcoming government within PDIP.

"There are none [division]," said Hasto in Jakarta on Friday, April 12, 2024.

Hasto stated that what is embraced are the values of public civilization and honest and fair democratic values.

"The values of power are for the people, not for corporations," Hasto said.

Previously, Hasto stated that PDIP is prepared to fight as opposition outside the government and parliament to fulfill the duty of checks and balances.

Hasto assessed that during the second term of President Joko Widodo or Jokowi, centralized power led to the ability to manipulate, hence power and criticism in the context of policies and their implementation require checks and balances.

Hasto said that being outside the government is a patriotic duty, as experienced by PDIP after the 2004 and 2009 elections.

"When PDIP was outside the government in 2004 and 2009, we were greatly appreciated for our role in improving the quality of democracy. Even being outside the government, a patriotic duty for defending the interests of the people itself," said Hasto in his press statement on Thursday, February 15, 2024.

According to the determination of the General Election Commission (KPU), the presidential and vice-presidential candidates endorsed by PDIP, namely Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud Md, only garnered 16.5 percent of the votes. This pair's position was third. The Ganjar-Mahfud pair even lost votes in PDIP's strongholds of Central Java and Bali.

According to the KPU's determination, the winners of the Presidential Election are the Prabowo-Gibran pair, who secured up to 58 percent of the votes.

The Ganjar-Mahfud pair is currently filing a dispute over the results of the 2024 Presidential Election with the Constitutional Court (MK). They argued that there were structured, systematic, and massive irregularities in this election. The dispute hearing is ongoing and is currently awaiting for the MK's verdict.
