TEMPO.CO, Solo - President Joko Widodo or "Jokowi" will reportedly perform the Eid al-Fitr prayer in Jakarta, in contrast to his eldest son and Solo Mayor, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who intends to celebrate the first day of Eid in Solo City.
Gibran confirmed this information while speaking to reporters after escorting the Central Java Acting Governor Nana Sudjana to visit the Solo Legi Market in the province on Thursday, April 4, 2024.
“[Pak Jokowi will perform Eid prayers] in Jakarta, while I will be at the city hall (Solo) every year,” he said.
However, when asked about his post-prayer plans, Gibran refused to disclose whether or not he would leave for Jakarta. “It’s a secret,” he replied.
Similarly, he remained tight-lipped about performing sungkeman, the Eid tradition of honoring parents, with his parents, Jokowi and First Lady Iriana. “It's not Eid yet.”
Last year, Gibran celebrated Eid al-Fitr with the then-governor of Central Java, Ganjar Pranowo, who is now his rival in the 2024 presidential election. He dismissed the notion that it would be the last time he celebrated Eid with Ganjar, underlining that there was no such thing as a final meeting as friendship should never be broken.
Regarding the plan for the Eid open house, Gibran said he would hold it at his official residence in Logi Gandrung. He also brushed off the suggestion that it would be his final Eid open house in Solo.
“Don’t say it will be the last as if I’m going anywhere,” he complained.
He also said that the open house would not be limited to the public and invited supporters and communities. “Everyone is welcome. [We will host] the open house after the Eid prayers. We have expanded the menus. Please, come and enjoy,” Gibran Rakabuming said.
