Prabowo Meets with Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim received a courtesy call from Indonesian President-Elect and Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto on Thursday, April 4. He posted about the meeting on his Facebook page.
Anwar said that the meeting was part of Prabowo's one-day visit to Malaysia. During the meeting which took place in Putrajaya, the two shared experiences and exchanged views on their political careers and Indonesia-Malaysia relations.
“Our political journeys are almost similar as we were both tested with various challenges before being appointed, Prabowo also shared his experience when he attended secondary school at Victoria Institution (VI) Kuala Lumpur,” Anwar said.
He congratulated and wished good luck to Prabowo who will be sworn in as the 8th President of Indonesia later this year. He also hoped that the relationship between the two countries would continue to be well-established and grow closer for the common good.
During the short visit, Prabowo also had a close meeting with his Malaysian counterpart Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
Malaysia is the third country Prabowo has visited in a series of overseas trips, after China and Japan, since he was declared the winner of the February presidential election on March 20.
In Beijing, Prabowo met with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Prime Minister Li Qiang, and Defense Minister Admiral Dong Jun, while in Tokyo, he had talks with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Defense Minister Minoru Kihara.
During the meetings, China and Japan expressed their willingness to further enhance cooperation and maintain the long-standing good relations with Indonesia.
