TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesia national football team defeated Vietnam in the second round of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup in the Asian zone on Tuesday, March 26, 2024. The match at the My Dinh International Stadium in Hanoi, ended with a score of 3-0.
The first of Indonesia's three goals was scored by Jay Idzes in the 9th minute from a corner kick by Thom Haye. The second goal was scored by Ragnar Oratmangoen from a free kick in the 23rd minute. The winning goal for Indonesia was scored by Ramadhan Sananta in the 97th minute.
The victory finally broke Indonesia's dreadful record of never beating Vietnam in Hanoi in the past 20 years. The Garuda Squad also strengthened their position at the second spot of the Group F standings with a collection of seven points, while Vietnam remains at the third spot with three points.
Next, Indonesia will face Iraq on June 6 and the Philippines on June 11 in the final matches of the second round of Asian Zone qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. Shin Tae-yong's men need just one more win to secure a place in the third round.
