TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono said on Monday that the food estate program in Seribu Islands or the Thousands Islands would involve private entities.
Heru did not explain which private parties will be involved in the program nor did he reveal the estimated budget to finance the program. According to Heru, the government of Jakarta is currently conducting a study on the matter.
Heru only stated that making Seribu Islands a food estate in 2025 is part of the effort by the Jakarta government to gain regional revenue going forward. “Because we have quite a significant amount of marine resources,” he said.
The reason Seribu Islands was chosen was because it was impossible to create a food estate on the mainland of Jakarta. Moreover, Heru assessed, that Seribu Islands is rich in marine products such as fish, seaweed, and algae.
Later, Heru said, the Jakarta Provincial Government will cooperate with BRIN, Bappenas, and the central government to initiate the food estate program. Earlier, Heru Budi mentioned that based on a study by BRIN (National Research and Innovation Agency), Seribu Islands are suitable for housing food estate, which will be realized in 2025.
Previously, Heru Budi Hartono revealed that based on the results of the BRIN study, land in the Thousand Islands is suitable for use as a food barn for DKI Jakarta, which will be realized in 2025.
"According to studies from BRIN and the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), Seribu Islands are rich in fishery products such as fish, seaweed, and others," Heru said after a plenary meeting at the Jakarta DPRD Building as quoted by Antara on Wednesday.
Heru said all sea areas in Seribu Islands are possible to be used as food estates, while the coastal areas are not due to pollution and waste.. While the coastal areas near Jakarta are not possible
