TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government ensured that the traffic system in the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) will be based on artificial intelligence (AI). The IKN Authority said the AI system is used to strengthen Nusantara's position as a smart and sustainable capital city.
The government also held a proof of concept (PoC) on Wednesday as a follow-up to the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the IKN Authority and Sergek Projects previously signed in September 2023.
The IKN Authority's Deputy for Green and Digital Transformation, Mohammed Ali Berawi, said the PoC could provide added value to IKN. "Not only in the form of traffic management and law enforcement but also analysis of motor vehicle emissions in certain areas in Balikpapan," he said in a written statement on Thursday, March 21, 2024.
Sergek Project stated that it will integrate the Sergek analysis system into the existing traffic infrastructure in Balikpapan City. The scope of the PoC starts with advanced traffic management, traffic law enforcement, and emissions and ecological monitoring.
Since its launch in February, according to Ali, the platform has provided insight and added value to Balikpapan's traffic patterns. This is because the system uses data analysis on various parameters, such as travel time, average speed, and traffic flow density. Sergek's AI-based platform allows traffic management operators, both at the Transportation Office and IKN Authority, to make informed and data-driven decisions.
Ali hopes that the implementation of the AI system can make traffic control and planning more effective. According to him, this step is also useful for IKN to achieve low carbon emission targets and encourage the use of public transportation.
During the PoC session, the authority also conducted a system demonstration on cameras that have been installed at several traffic points in Balikpapan City.
Director of Digital Ecosystem Development of IKN Authority, Tonny Agus Setiono said that the PoC conducted with Sergek can also be monitored from the IKN Authority Command Center in the IKN Construction Worker Residential building. In the future, he said, the potential of this technology will be maximized at IKN.
