Seven Died During Flooding in Central Java's Kudus Regency

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Kudus Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported that seven people died during the floods that have swept the region since Thursday, March 14. 

"Six drowned and one fell during the flood," said the Head of the Emergency Section of the BPBD of Kudus Regency, Munaji, in a written statement on Tuesday, March 19, 2024.

In detail, one drowned and fell in Temulus rice fields. Three drowned in Kirig rice fields. One drowned near the river embankment. One person was electrocuted near a flooded utility pole, and the last one drowned in Dukuh Goleng rice fields.

Until Monday afternoon, five sub-districts in Kudus Regency were still flooded, namely Mejobo, Jati, Undaan, Jekulo, and Kaliwungu.

The flood affected 13,586 households or 39,272 people. A total of 1,287 households or 4,188 people fled to shelters and their safer relative’s homes. A total of 6,523 houses and 2,295 hectares of rice fields were flooded.

BPBD Kudus Regency along with a joint team is still evacuating and monitoring the affected locations, distributing logistics for residents, and providing psychosocial assistance and medical treatment for those affected.

Shelters for flood victims are spread across 25 points. Among others, Gulang Village Hall, Payaman Village Hall, Jati Wetan Village Hall, Kedungdowo Village Hall, TPQ Khuriyatul Fikri Paslor, GKMI Tanjungkarang, DPRD Building, JHK Kudus Building, and Saerah Market.
