TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) appealed to residents living in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant as the rainfall intensity has increased since Thursday, March 14. The agency noted that the water level at several sluice gates in the city had risen due to the heavy rains over the past few days.
The Katulampa Dam, Depok Monitoring Post, Manggarai Sluice Gate, and Karet Sluice Gate have now been at an alarming level 3 or alert, causing inundation in several areas of the capital.
According to the latest data from BPBD, the number of flooded areas has decreased from 16 neighborhood units (RT) to 15 RT or 0.049 percent of the total 30,772 RT in the province. The affected areas include South Jakarta and East Jakarta, with water levels varying from 50 centimeters to 110 centimeters due to the overflow of the Ciliwung River.
The Jakarta BPBD has made efforts to tackle the flooding by deploying personnel to monitor the conditions in each area and coordinating with the Jakarta Water Agency, Bina Marga Agency, and the Fire and Rescue Agency (Gulkarmat) to suction the puddles and ensure that the water lines function properly. The goal is for the flooding to recede quickly.
The public is advised to remain vigilant and be alert for possible flooding. The Jakarta BPBD also reminds the public to contact 112 in case of emergency.
