TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno said he would improve the competence of MSMEs in the Nusantara Capital City or IKN. One of the measures taken is creating a program to disseminate the tourism awareness movement in East Kalimantan.
Based on Sandiaga's presentation at the Development of Tourism and Creative Economy Sector event in IKN, there are 17 creative economy sub-sectors in East Kalimantan. "What contributes the most are culinary, craft, and fashion," he said on Thursday, March 14, 2024.
The three sub-sectors contributed to the Gross Regional Domestic Product or GRDP in East Kalimantan in 2023. The culinary sector occupies the top position which amounted to Rp18.16 trillion or 3.46 percent of the total GRDP. Fashion amounted to Rp4.12 trillion or 0.79 percent, and crafts amounted to Rp2.81 trillion or 0.56 percent.
In total, the three sectors contributed Rp29.43 trillion in East Kalimantan, more significant than the contribution of the tourism sector of Rp9.14 trillion. Meanwhile, the total GRDP of East Kalimantan in 2023 is Rp524.16 trillion.
In addition to culinary, fashion, and crafts, Sandiaga said he would still improve the competence of MSMEs in 14 other sectors through the Tourism Awareness Movement program. "For example, animation and video. There is still a lot of demand in these sectors going forward," he said.
Currently, the tourism ministry has carried out four activities for the program. First, technical guidance on culinary subsector partnerships in Kutai Kartanegara Regency on February 10, which was attended by 100 business actors. Second, the certification of competence in the tourism collaborative subsidy pattern (SKPP SK) in the hotel and restaurant sector in Balikpapan on February 16, was attended by 40 participants.
Third, certification of competence in the animation and video subsector in Samarinda in the second quarter of 2024. Fourth, competency-based training in the culinary subsector in Balikpapan in July 2024. According to Sandiaga, the activity would continue.
