TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Commissioner of the General Elections Commission or KPU, Idham Holik, asked all parties to be patient while waiting for the vote recapitulation of the election results which will be carried out from February 15 to March 20, 2024. He revealed this following the House appeal for KPU to immediately anticipate the surge in votes from the Indonesian Solidarity Party or PSI with manual counting.
"We ask all parties to be patient, waiting for the official results of the national level recapitulation by KPU," Idham said in Jakarta on Tuesday.
According to Idham, the official results of the election are recapitulated by KPU manually in stages, and witnessed directly by witnesses and supervised by relevant agencies, including KPU.
If there is a discrepancy in voting results during recapitulation, the forum could correct the data based on “the data contained in the C1-Plano Model Form," Idham said.
Under KPU Regulation No. 3 of 2022, KPU has until March 19, 2024, to complete the recapitulation of vote counts up to the national level. The results are announced no later than March 20, 2024.
Previously, Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the DPR Ahmad Sahroni asked KPU to immediately anticipate the surge in PSI votes with manual counting.
"It's a shame if this is not anticipated by KPU as soon as possible, manually," said Sahroni on Tuesday, March 5.
He said, that through manual counting, KPU would be able to see problems and which regions experienced a significant surge in PSI votes. According to Sahroni, there are always political dynamics in every election, so, naturally, there are errors in inputting numbers sometimes. However, what is concerning is a potential markup toward one specific party’s votes.
On Monday, Idham Holik emphasized that there was no marking up of PSI votes. Idham said that what was inaccurate was optical character recognition (OCR) or technology that extracts text from images in reading photos of C1-Plano Model Forms or records of the results of the 2024 Election vote count.
"Here, it is important for active participants of the Recapitulation Information System (Sirekap) to report these inaccuracies," said Idham.
