TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Police have confirmed that there was an explosion at the East Java Military Police Sub-Department (Subdenpom) I office at 10:19 AM, March 1, 2024. There were no casualties in the incident.
"We have informed the regional police chief and immediately formed a team," Brig. Gen. Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, head of the National Police's Public Information Office, PR Division, said in a statement on Monday.
Trunoyudo said that currently the East Java Regional Police with a team from forensics and Brimob are working to trace the explosion. He assured that the team will communicate the progress fully and comprehensively.
The explosion occurred at 10:19 am on Monday morning. East Java Police Chief Insp. Gen. Imam Sugianto suspects that the explosion was caused by the remnants of explosives that were to be destroyed or disposed of.
"As it happens, the East Java Police bomb squad does not yet have a standard warehouse. So they store the leftovers and remnants of explosives in a space next to their office," Imam said, as quoted by Antara.
Imam said there had been no casualties from the blast so far. So far, material damage has been recorded, including damage to the office building and a car containing bomb disposal equipment.
Imam said a team from the forensic laboratory, accompanied by the Gegana bomb squad, was working at the scene.
"The bomb is in the low explosive category. We hope to inform the media after we get the full results," he said.
