TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Binus School Serpong opened up its voice regarding the alleged bullying case perpetrated by several senior high school students against their younger classmates. The case has been abuzzed on social media site X (formerly Twitter) since Sunday, February 18.
In its official statement, the international school emphasized that the incident committed by a group of students took place outside of the school environment and school hours. The school then decided to expel all students involved in the bullying.
“All students who have been proven to have committed acts of violence are no longer part of the Binus School community,” the school’s spokesperson, Haris Suhendra, said in a written statement on Wednesday, Feb. 21.
Additionally, students who witnessed the incidents without taking any preventive measures were severely punished. The police would also investigate the case in which the victim was hospitalized after being beaten with wooden sticks by his seniors.
South Tangerang Police planned to summon the alleged perpetrators, including the child of a famous artist, VR. The bullying, which took place at a kiosk near the school building, reportedly happened twice.
“The summons has been planned, and investigators are still looking into it,” said South Tangerang Police Spokesperson Adj. Comr. Wendi Afrianto on Feb. 21.
However, Wendi claimed that he had not been informed yet about how many people would be summoned in the bullying case at the Binus School Serpong.
