TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice Presidential Candidate number one, Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin, touched on the ‘political dynasty’ on the last campaign day of the 2024 General Elections. Anies-Muhaimin pair carried out their last grand campaign at Jakarta International Stadium (JIS), North Jakarta, on Saturday, February 10, 2024.
Muhaimin got on the stage with his presidential candidate Anies Baswedan after going around the stage greeting the participants. Muhaimin took the microphone to lead a prayer and recite Salawat.
During the Salawat recital, Muhaimin inserted his satire in Indonesian between the Arabic lyrics. "The people agree for change, elections are not a change of hunger, uncle is involved between father and son, the constitution is falling apart..." Muhaimin sang in Salawat tone.
Muhaimin also touched on the oligarchs and political dynasties in the Salawat. "Don't let them buy your votes, it benefits the oligarchy, let us uphold democracy, Indonesia is not owned by a dynasty." he continued in a Salawat tone.
The vice presidential candidate through his Salawat recital touched on the nomination process of Gibran Rakabuming Raka which involved ethics code violation at the Constitutional Court (MK). Gibran, who is running as vice presidential candidate for presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto, must first go through changes to the age limit rules at the Constitutional Court to be able to run in the 2024 presidential election.
The Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court who at that time ruled on the change was Anwar Usman, the uncle of Gibran. Besides, everyone knows that Gibran is the first son of President Joko Widodo or Jokowi. The process often draws criticism because it is considered an attempt to build a political dynasty by President Jokowi's family.
Today, Feb. 10, is the last day for the campaign period for the 2024 General Election. Candidate pair Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar chose to carry out a grand campaign at JIS today. After today's grand campaign, there will be a three-day cool-down period before voting day on February 14, 2024.
