TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) invited Vietnamese entrepreneurs to invest in Indonesia's new capital city Nusantara (IKN) in North Penajam Paser, East Kalimantan.

Jokowi conveyed this at a business dialogue with Vietnamese entrepreneurs at the Melia Hotel in Hanoi, Vietnam, on Saturday, which was also attended by Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

"I invite Vietnamese entrepreneurs to invest in IKN Nusantara according to the expertise of each company," he noted as quoted from a press statement issued by his press bureau on Saturday.

The head of state also encouraged Indonesia and Vietnam to strengthen bilateral collaboration to realize the vision of becoming high-income countries by 2045.

"We have the same vision to become high-income countries by 2045. To achieve that, we must strengthen collaboration, including in the business sector," he stated.

On that occasion, President Jokowi highlighted that Indonesia has large carbon exchange potential, reaching more than US$200 billion, with a carbon market launched in 2023.

Regarding VinFast's investment in Indonesia in the electric car industry, he expressed optimism that the production target in 2026 would be achieved soon. He also called on the company to collaborate with Indonesian entrepreneurs.

In the development plans for airport and tourism-related infrastructure facilities, Jokowi expressed hope that Indonesia's cooperation with the Vietnamese company Sovico Group would be started soon.

Moreover, he requested VietJet Airlines to add more flights to several super-priority destinations in Indonesia, such as Labuan Bajo, Mandalika, Likupang, Lake Toba, and Borobudur.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir, Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, Chief of the Presidential Staff Office Moeldoko, Member of the Presidential Advisory Council Gandi Sulistiyanto, and Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam Denny Abdi also accompanied Jokowi at the meeting.
