TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - For some people, thrifting is a popular culture that supports a sustainable and environmentally friendly lifestyle. In Indonesia itself, thrifting has a fairly large fan base. This idea that supports the zero waste movement is also welcomed by many groups, especially young people.

Many young people, especially in Jakarta, choose to buy clothes and other goods at second-hand markets rather than at shopping centers. Here are some recommended places to visit for you to go thrift shopping:

1. Pasar Senen

Talking about thrifting will definitely not be separated from the name of this market, Pasar Senen (Senen Market). Located in Senen, Central Jakarta, Pasar Senen is well known among young thrift lovers and is often used as a destination for people outside Jakarta when visiting the capital.

This market has many second-hand shops selling various types of clothing, from t-shirts, trousers, jackets, hats, bags to imported shoes. If you are lucky, branded goods at low prices can also be found in this market. The right time to visit this market is 08:00 WIB (Western Indonesian Time) because it is not too busy and many new goods arrive at this time.

2. Pasar Baru

This market is the oldest market in Jakarta. In this market you can find many second-hand goods shops selling various items. For example, at the entrance you can find various glasses and accessory shops. On the 2nd floor, there are mostly shops that sell lenses and cameras and provide camera repair services. Meanwhile, floors 3 and 4 sell various used clothes. Prices usually start from Rp15,000 for a used branded shirt.

3. Pasar Kebayoran

Pasar Kebayoran (Kebayoran Market), this market is under the flyover in the Kebayoran Lama area. Various kinds of used goods are sold here, ranging from shoes, bags, watches, fans, cellphones, clothes, cassettes, kitchen utensils, audio cassettes, cameras to antiques. Vendors sell their wares in semi-permanent shops, wooden huts and under bridges. Most of the goods in this market are of better quality than other markets with prices that are still within reasonable limits. Of course, buyers must be smart in distinguishing between genuine goods and KW goods when shopping at this market.

4. Taman Puring

For shoe lovers, Taman Puring (Puring Park) is no stranger. Having been around since the 1960s, this market is famous for its wide selection of shoes at competitive prices. Here you can get quality shoes at affordable and negotiable prices.

This thrift market sells various kinds of shoes, from school shoes, sports shoes, work shoes, boots, sneakers, trekking shoes to hiking shoes. There are also women's shoes such as flats, wedges and heels. The price range is Rp50,000 for one pair with original quality to locally made shoes.

5. Jembatan Item

Located in Rawa Bunga, Jatinegara, East Jakarta, the Jembatan Item (Item Bridge) or what is often called the Jatinegara flea market is a paradise for second-hand goods markets. There are various kinds of used goods along the two kilometer road, ranging from shoes, bags, watches, fans, cellphones, clothes, cassettes, kitchen utensils, cassette tapes, cameras, even antiques.

Some vendors sell their wares on small tables or used banners. Many traders do not hesitate to reduce prices if there are buyers who bid on their goods. Even though it is a used goods market, the quality of what is sold in this market is still good and can be used. Apart from being visited by many young people for thrifting, this market is often visited by antique collectors.
