TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Effective January 1, 2024, Malaysia implements a new rule for foreigners wanting to visit the country, the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC). The rule is also applied to Indonesian passport holders.
“Beginning 1 January 2024 all foreign citizens traveling to Malaysia are required to complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) three (3) days prior to arrival,” the Immigration of Malaysia wrote.
The rule is exempt for citizens of Singapore, diplomatic and official passport holders, Malaysian Permanent Residents and Long Term-Pass holders, General Certificate of Identity (GCI) Brunei Darussalam holders, Brunei Malaysia Frequent Traveller Facility holders, Thailand Border Pass holders, and Indonesia Cross-Border Travel Document (PLB) holders.
Meanwhile, the steps to complete the MDAC are as follows:
- Visit https://imigresen-online.imi.gov.my/mdac/main at least three days before departure to Malaysia
- Click ‘Register’
- Fill in your personal information including name, passport number, date of passport expiry, date of birth, nationality, date of arrival and departure, mode of travel, accommodation of stay, and others.
- Click ‘Submit’
- Upon arrival in Malaysia, show the MDAC registration and active passport to the immigration counters.
This digital arrival card was first launched in January 2023 as a pre-requisite for Singaporean passport holders to allow them to use the e-gate facility in two land entries in Johor Baru.
Visitors from Australia, Brunei, Germany, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, the United States, and the United Kingdom are also allowed to use the Malaysian autogate facility.
To be eligible for the autogate facility, first-time visitors to Malaysia must register and verify their passports at a manual counter upon arrival.
