Millennial Women Make Up Most of Christmas, New Year Holiday Goers, Survey Says

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy conducted a survey of more than 903 respondents regarding tourism activities during the Christmas and New Year holidays. The results showed that 74 percent of tourists were made up of young adult women or millennials, who mostly visited beaches, lakes, seas, culinary centers, mountains, zoos and tourist villages.
The survey also showed that 54 percent of respondents took 2 to 4 days of vacation, 36 percent traveled with a duration of 1 to 2 hours, and 69 percent of domestic tourists traveled in their private vehicles.
Meanwhile, a survey by the Ministry of Transportation showed that the majority of people traveled to tourist locations with a total of 45.29 percent, while 30.15 percent chose to return to their hometowns and 18.98 percent celebrated Christmas and New Year in their hometowns.
Previously, the Ministry of Transportation predicted that 107.63 million people would be on the move during the Christmas and New Year holidays, which is around 39 to 40 percent of the population.
Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said that during last year's Christmas holiday 44.17 million people were estimated to have traveled. This year, the number is predicted to reach 107.63 million people, or up by 143.65 percent.
