TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno said tourists' activities during the Christmas and New Year holidays matched the government's projections and expectations. Based on his calculations, the potential circulation of money for the national economy in that period reached more than Rp108 trillion.
"We see that the potential money circulation for the economy, including accommodation, hotels and restaurants, reaches more than Rp108 trillion, based on the occupancy rate of around 70 percent during the 10 days," said Sandiaga at his office, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, January 3.
The potential money circulation, Sandiaga said, was calculated by referring to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).
The BPS recorded that during the Christmas holiday, there were around 15,500 hotel rooms booked for a rate of around Rp1 million per night.
The government's initial target was tourism contribution to the national economy was Rp120 trillion, with the number of visits during the Christmas and New Year periods reaching 107 million to 110 million tourists.
