TEMPO.CO, Tangerang - State-owned air navigation firm AirNav Indonesia served 33,191 flights during this year’s Christmas holidays from December 19 to 26.
"The peak was on December 23 when we served 4,740 flights," said Airnav Indonesia president director, Polana B. Pramesti, in a written statement on Thursday, December 28. She added that the total of flights on December 19-26 was 33,191 flights collected from 51 posts in AirNav Indonesia branch offices.
Polana expected the number of flights during this Christmas and New Year’s holidays would increase by 3.6 percent compared to the previous period of 2022/2023, based on the data of extra flight demand and the airline’s recorded flight slot. AirNav Indonesia opens 51 posts from December 19, 2023, to January 3, 2024, at branch offices across the country.
Until December 2023, AirNav Indonesia served air traffic in Indonesia for more than dari 1.8 million flights, an increase of 17 percent compared to that in 2022 at 1.5 million flights.
"AirNav is committed to providing the best service for users of flight navigation services, with innovation in the application and procedural which can increase flight safety, regularity and efficiency in Indonesia," he commented.
Polana explained AirNav had prepared all personnel and facilities in the flight navigation service to maintain flight safety during the year-end holidays. Daily checks are conducted to ensure the readiness of facilities and operational human resources, data and flight information, flight slot flexibility, and emergency procedures in case of bad weather and volcanic eruptions.
“Navigation service in this holiday season runs well, in addition to the increase of public interest to use air transport, but we still have to be aware of the recent volcanic eruptions in Indonesia, such as Mount Marapi eruption in West Sumatra, Mount Semeru, and the others," said Polana.
AirNav actively issues ASHTAM (volcano warnings) for flight safety, and coordinates intensively with stakeholders relating to updated development, such as with BMKG, airport operators, and pilot reports to determine the distribution of volcanic ash.
"We are alert and intensively coordinating with the BMKG on every report of a volcanic eruption, they also always take notes from pilot reports regarding updates on which areas are affected by the volcanic eruption," she said.
"Flight comfort and safety during the Christmas and New Year holiday season is our priority. We have passed the holiday travel season together safely and smoothly, and are waiting for the return flow season which is estimated to peak on January 2, 2024, AirNav will remain alert and that flight safety is our main priority," Polana remarked.
