TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Minister Erick Thohir was determined to shut down seven state-owned companies on Friday, Dec. 29. “Based on the results of the study and all the efforts that have been made, it is concluded that there are seven SOEs that will be dissolved,” read a written statement from the National Asset Management Company (PPA) on Thursday, December 28, 2023
PPA is part of the state-owned holding company Danareksa which was mandated to act as an active manager of some SOEs. Citing its official website, PPA is a state asset management company specializing in restructuring and revitalization of SOE, investment, asset management, and consulting.
The announcement of the dissolution of the seven SOEs will be made by Deputy SOE Minister Kartika Wirjoatmodjo at a press conference at the PPA office, on Friday, December 29.
The seven SOEs to be officially dissolved are:
1. PT Kertas Kraft Aceh;
2. PT Kertas Leces;
3. PT Istaka Karya;
4. PT Merpati Nusantara Airlines;
5. PT Industri Sandang Nusantara;
6. PT Financing Armada Niaga Nasional;
7. PT Industri Gelas.
A source from PPA, who refused to be named, confirmed that the seven SOEs would be dissolved tomorrow. Tempo observed that the discourse on disbanding the seven companies has been emerging since 2021.
In September 2021, Minister Erick announced that he would dissolve seven SOEs. One of the reasons was that the company had not been operating for a long time. The plan also took into account the fate of the employees.
However, Erick Thohir said it would be a long process, so he asked for the support of President Joko Widodo or Jokowi, all ministers, and the House of Representatives (DPR).
